The Meab Story. Where Ancient Irish Craftsmanship
and Modern Colour and Design Meet.
The Meab story started over 40 years ago, when a young Meab set out on her travels around Europe. Meab always had a love of Irish crafts and was inspired great artists such as Faberge to develop her own craft.

Irish crafts such as enamelling have been carried out in Ireland for hundreds of years. Many ancient Irish crafted enamelled pieces date back to Celtic times and are on display in our National Museums. Enamelling requires a pure metal base such as gold, silver or copper. Meab was keen to be environmentally friendly in her work. She also wanted to use indigenous Irish materials for her craft. She recycled copper from old copper water cylinders as a pure metal base for her enamelling.

Meab developed her own type of ‘open fire’ enamelling which was an excellent way of combining the vibrant contrasting colours. This was also and great way of evoking Celtic designs in a new contemporary style.
In 1965 Meab opened her own Irish Crafts shop. This gave her a great opportunity to develop her craft and sell her enamel designs as well as many other quality Irish crafts. Meab continued crafting her jewellery whilst she raised her Children, she won awards for her work and created many unusual pieces such as a Mayors coat of arms and as well as many commissioned pieces.

Meab's daughter Clair was awed at a young age whilst watching her mother firing the jewelry - It was also a great way to keep warm in the winter time! Meab brought her daughter Clair to crafts fairs which were way a great way to meet fellow crafts people and be inspired! Clair grew up with handcrafted toys and teddies and developed an early appreciation for Irish crafts. Clair's crafted toys still sit proud today and are a testiment to the quality of Irish crafts. It was inevitable that Clair would follow in her mother's footsteps and continue the enamelling tradition.
Clair has her own individual style which she has used to create larger decorative pieces, enamel and silver combinations as well as her new enamel decorative dish collection.
Meab and Clair work together in their craft shop in the peaceful and idyllic environment of Meab’s farm in the midlands of Ireland. The colors in this rural countryside are continuingly changing from season to season and bring them inspiration every day.
Today, they are proud to able to sell their unique
Irish craft shop online.
